After Saul disobeyed God, he was rejected as king over Israel and David was ordained to take his place. Disobedience to God’s commands, pride, envy, and following the will of men instead of the will of God contributed to Saul’s downfall. David, although a sinner in many ways, had complete faith in God, loved His word, and did everything God wanted him to (Acts 13:22).

“The war between the house of Saul and the house of David lasted a long time. David grew stronger and stronger, while the house of Saul grew weaker and weaker.”

–  2 Samuel 3:1 (NIV)

Mark 11:24

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours

The house of Saul and the house of David In 2 Samuel 3:1, the ‘house of Saul’ represents everything that is ungodly, while the ‘house of David’ represents everything godly. As you begin 2021, it is important that you decide which house you want to belong to—the house of Saul or the house of David. If you continue in your sinful ways, it means you’ve chosen the house of Saul and you’ll reap the consequences.

On the other hand, if you obey God’s commands and live a life of love and devotion to the faith, you will receive the blessings of the house of David. He will elevate you like He elevated the young shepherd boy to the throne of Israel. You’ll win battles and do exploits.

“If you fear the Lord and serve and obey him and do not rebel against his commands, and if both you and the king who reigns over you follow the Lord your God—good! But if you do not obey the Lord, and if you rebel against his commands, his hand will be against you, as it was against your

ancestors.” – 1 Samuel 12:14-15

Saul and David had a good relationship at first. After the latter slew the Philistine giant Goliath, Saul made him a general in his army. Saul’s youngest daughter Michal even became David’s first wife. But as time went by, God’s favor on David grew, and Saul became envious of the young lad’s

continuous success and sought to kill him. God protected David and continued to strengthen his house while Saul’s house grew weaker and weaker.

Where do you belong?

Everyone who humbly and faithfully serves God is of the house of David. This doesn’t mean you have to be perfect. No one is. David committed several grievous sins in his lifetime, but he still found favor with God. When you err, be intentional about getting right with God. Confess your

sins and ask Him for forgiveness in the name of Jesus Christ and He will cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9).

Make the house of David your house and everything that concerns you will become stronger in 2021. God is raising up mighty warriors this new year. Your enemies will tremble at the mention of your name because you serve the living God. It doesn’t matter what you’re passing through right now, it has been predestined that you will come out victorious. You are getting stronger and stronger in the name of Jesus Christ.
