Christ had a vision for His church. He wanted His message of love and repentance to reach the far corners of the earth. He recruited disciples to help Him achieve this mission, one of whom was Simon Peter. He envisioned the impulsive and outspoken fisherman leading His church.

Christ gave Simon the surname Peter, meaning rock, and told him in

“And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

– Matthew 16:18 (NIV)

Mark 11:24

Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours

Simon and the rest of the disciples were looking forward to accomplishing a lot more with Jesus–winning souls, performing miracles, and sharing the good news far and wide. What they did not see coming, however, was His death.

After Jesus drew His last breath and His body was sealed in a tomb, His disciples were downcast, lost, and hopeless. They didn’t expect Him to rise from the dead. Even though Christ had spoken about it several times, His resurrection was a little too ambiguous for them to understand.

Simon Peter was going through a tough time. Apart from recently losing his friend, his business was also starting to sink. Oh, how he longed to Hear His Lord’s voice again! This past year, the pandemic has also caused many to lose their loved ones and their sources of income. They’ve felt sorrow and despair like Peter did.

In life, loss is often accompanied by sorrow and heaviness. It’s important, however, to remember that God does not forsake His own. It may look like He’s out of the picture but God will show up in your life, just like He did for His disciples after His resurrection. He will never leave you.

After Jesus rose from the dead, His first mission was to meet with His disciples. He wanted them to know that He was alive. John 21 tells us that Jesus appeared to Simon Peter and two other disciples while they were out fishing one day. His appearance was accompanied by a great miracle.

“Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not realize that it was Jesus. He called out to them, ‘Friends, haven’t you any fish?’ ‘No,’ they answered. He said, ‘Throw your net

on the right side of the boat and you will find some.’ When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.” – John 21: 4-6

That morning, the Bible tells us that the disciples went from zero to 153 big fishes! They knew instantly that only Jesus could have pulled such a mighty miracle. Then Jesus invited them to have breakfast with Him with some of the fish they had caught.

“Jesus said to them, ‘Come and have breakfast.’ None of the disciples dared ask him, ‘Who are you?’ They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came, took the bread and gave it to them, and did the same with the fish.” – John 21:10-13.

While Jesus was on trial to be crucified, Peter denied knowing Him three times. Yet Christ invited him to breakfast after His resurrection. Although Peter failed, Jesus didn’t see Him as a failure; He saw

him as the leader he had been ordained to be. Peter ended up preaching to the biggest of crowds and founding the first church.

Likewise, when God steps into your life, He will cause the impossible to become possible. It doesn’t matter how long you have toiled with no results, you will experience a divine turnaround. In an instant, all your sorrows will fade away. You will fulfill your purpose and become who He has called you to be.

It may look like He’s no longer in the picture, but the stone has been rolled away for over 2000 years now. He is risen. Sin cannot keep you in bondage, He has paid the price in full for your redemption.

Sickness cannot have dominion over you because, by His stripes, you are healed (Isaiah 53:5).

Though He died, He did not remain in the grave. Jesus came out victorious over death. He is still appearing to His followers and performing miracles, and He is still building His church. Don’t lose hope. Stand firm in the faith. Christ will never leave you comfortless. You have been assured of victory in the name of Jesus.
